While with Amsterdam Ballast Dredging he was involved in area management for the Middle East. For more than 7 years he headed the engineering department of the international dredging contractor Van Oord Utrecht (now Van Oord ACZ) where he was involved in defining construction methods, production estimates, risk analysis and soil mechanical and coastal engineering studies.
Since 1989 he has established himself as a successful independent consulting engineer in dredging and marine construction. He has advised numerous clients on the technical and financial feasibility of large and small scale dredging and coastal engineering projects, and conducted many studies on the handling and beneficial use of contaminated dredged material. Because of his extensive practical experience in the contracting industry, his services are regularly called upon to assist in dispute resolution and to provide adjudication services as arbiter or expert witness.
He has worked in East and West Africa, the Middle and Far East and Australia and more recent years has been involved as an independent consultant with projects in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Mexico, Argentina, Latvia, the United Kingdom, Greece, The Philippines and Turkey.
He is board member of the Central Dredging Association (CEDA) and chairman of examiners on a dredging course for young entrants in the Belgium and Dutch dredging industry organised by the contractor's branch (VBKO). He is co-author of study books for this training course and has edited, written and contributed to a number of handbooks in his field.
